Shitty session

Took a couple of days off and came back and played bought for 15 - ran bad (slowplayed QQ from the sb and the guy flopped a straight), got it back up and lost it all on a big bluff. Came back, felt like I was starting to get in a groove again but obv 10 10 < 5 5 and when you keep laying down the best hand it's tough to win. Jeesh, rough session. started at 703.33 ended up at 663.33. Oh well. Didn't play horrible it just didn't work out...

The two hands I laid down that would've been the winner...

he said he had A5 before and I felt like he did (checked the HH and he did). But anyways - after laying down two hands and being wrong I proceeded to lose A 10 that I was pretending was an overpair (a lot like the AJ that I bluffed with...wow - gotta fix that leak)....Shitty session. Lost $40. I guess if you run bad and play bad that's supposed to happen.

the rush continues...

Last night I played...got up a little bit then lost that back plus some - down ten bucks or so to be at $630 or about that. Anyways - played a rush this morning - I was flat out getting slapped in the face with the deck and through 36 hands I had built $25 up to $92 - i got up above that and played it out, high water mark of something like $116, but the dude to my right kept flopping a set everytime I would make a big hand. Anyways I bounced with $98.20 to bring my poker bankroll up to $703.33. Getting closer...

Back at it...

I love friday night poker - I really do. I was frustrated that my last session went so well and was still break even. So, I figured screw it - I'll sit down at another session. I bought in for $22 and was grinding and grinding and grinding and after 148 hands I was down to $10.55...then not too long after this hand comes up...

Shewwww...after a long grinding session that's what I needed. I went on a pretty sick rush after this and in the next 80 hands or so I built it up over $100 and ended up checking out at $92.70 for a profit of over $70! That's a helper.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Soooo, when I sat down I had $569.88 and when I left I had $640.58. Good way to start a variance filled weekend, I'm sure -- $109.42 away from playing .25/.50 within my bankroll, AND I'm over $625 ($25 x 25 buyins). So far this project is going pretty well!!!

weekend roller coaster

I'm kind of proud of what just happened. I lost a full buy in (I know I was only rolled to play like 22 bux), but I bought in for 15 lost it down to $4.15 bought another 10 and lost that. All coolers and beats and the such, I really felt like I could outplay the table handily. Sooooo, I bought in for the full $25. I took a couple more beats but nothing too nasty and built it up to $56.80. After a little while of bouncing up and down around $50, the game started to tighten up and the players seemed to become a little more skilled. I enjoy this type of game as it's more challenging and there are less beats, but I'm trying to get to 2/4 and I don't think I'll make it if I ignore game selection.

So I stood up with $51.35 and really felt like I was making a good decision. Started with $568.53 left with $569.88.

Two hands I want to show - both were losing plays, but I had a solid read on both of them and I didn't respond properly. This has been a BIG leak in my game - I just can't seem to trust my read and make the best play. It's like I know what they have and I call anyway when I should push or fold. Goofy.

This hand really looks like a standard stubborn AK and it probably started out that way, but I felt confident the guy was on the club draw and didn't feel threatened with the 6 or 2 -- I think if I check call then check raise the turn and bet the river heavy -- or if I just check raise him all in on the river (which I think would've been the best way to go) I take this pot down pretty easily. I called because I felt like he missed the draw, so I was right. I should've considered the 7 an option and made the move to take the pot when I felt he was weak and not just think a whiffed hand was enough. All in all I'm pissed at myself with the way I played this. If I want to improve my game I have to get away from these plays.

Ok - this is the one that really bothers me. I KNEW rockabilly missed his draw (although I at least gave the donk credit for the flush draw). I felt like Rudibomben had the Ace. So why can't I lay it down? Because I know I have a bigger hand than rockabilly? At least I'm reading hands well - I just need to be able to trust my read to make the optimum play. As soon as I can do that, I think I'll see a significant improvement in my profitability.

I'm complaining though. I was stuck $25 and ended up with a slight winning session. I'm very content with the results of this after the start and some of the hands that I paid off due to the way they were played - there were several hands that were played so bad on every street that I don't feel guilty about committing the two buy-ins to this game, and I'm proud that when the game picked up several better players, I got out while I was only $5 less than my high water mark.

a night in West Virginia

I'm at a beautiful snow covered ski resort in the mountains of West Virginia, and had an ok night - got my taxes done, worked out, had a chicken ceasar wrap that was pretty good - all in all felt a lot better and was content...but then I decided to play poker, geh.

I actually played ok and was running pretty bad...i.e. got a walk with QQ when I had a maniac table image, raise with J 10 on the button get called down by Q 6 off and lose when the board comes Q 10 x. Pick up JJ in the next hand and can't get any action with the same raise. Oh well. I still played ok up until the end - I made a super donk call against the always fearless opponent "JenipherH". Immediately followed by flopping bottom two when the button had min raised with pocket 10's and hit top set.

I'm just about embarrassed to post that hand. That was donkalicious. Pre-flop I decided that I was going to defend my button against EVIL OB with a hand that could draw out big on him, but Jen and enricopp followed behind each subsequent person getting a better price to see a flop. In hindsight I should've reraised as 1) I had position 2) it would've knocked enrico and probably Jen, too, out of the hand.

I really didn't have much business betting my pair on the flop 4 handed, but it's not a horrendous play. I'd already shown a big bet when I flopped bottom two - so had I bet it big enough to really take odds away I might've gotten a draw to lay down. I got the immediate check call from Jen and then another one from enricopp and without a flush draw out there I knew at least one of them held the 6. When the 8 comes on the turn we get the upfront checks. No Shit. "Well, good." I say to myself. "They might BOTH have the straight". I check behind because I would have to be a dumbass to push it again when it's obvious what they have. I know what you're thinking, though - doesn't Chris have a little donkey on his shoulder that blurts out, "heeeeeeeeeeehawwwwwwwww" right when he's about to make the correct play? Yes. Yes, I do, and when I make bottom two pair, which can only be good if Jen has A7 or A8 , I can't wait to call!!! I wish I could have that one back. I don't know when I'll one day be able to get away from my own stupidity.

Two hands after that...

This is just a cold deck - but my bet sizing is bad - I commit myself with the $3.50, I might as well shove for more fold equity against EVIL, who led out for 2/3 of the pot. I just walked into a big hand. Had it been aces or kings I'd have won, but it was a donk with 10 10 giving out cheap flops and hit one of his two outs for a monster. All in all a pretty cruddy session.

I got a hankerin' to leave the table when I was stuck $7.15 and I didn't do it. I just didn't feel like the table was going to be all that profitable at that point. GG Inner Voice. If I can plug the leak of playing past my high profit zone, I think I'd be up at .25/.50 in no time. Oh yeah, and not call with bottom two when it's blatantly obvious that I'm beat.

Blah, first losing session since the blog started.

Still feeling pretty poor - but I got a little boost in spirits when I said screw it, found a game that looked pretty soft and sat down for another 15 bux. I got up to somewhere around 80 with a couple of hands and was doing fine, but lost this one...

that river queen really hurt my feelings, but I was still doing really well -- I ended up losing to this chick later with A9 vs. AJ (she limped in first position and I did on the button) on a 10 A 4 Q Q board. I thought it was a split pot. Oh well. I finished the session much better off than I started and I got some beats out of the way...

Started at $556.13 and ended at $593.53. I guess I should be pretty happy about it (and I am mildly content with the session), but I was up to about $620 and lost a couple big hands at the end that I should've played differently. so I'm $31.47 away from being able to follow my bankroll management AND buy-in for the full $25 at .10/.25. I know it's not a lot of money, but it's moving in the right direction and getting me closer to my goal of playing 1/2 consistently by December 31, 2007 and having bought in (again while following br management) at 2/4.

Daytime Poker

I feel like shit right now - don't know if I'm getting the flu or what's going on, but I figured since I didn't feel like eating at lunch time, I'd play a couple of hands (10 min session).

I started at 552.73, bought in for $15 at a table of short stacks, won a couple hands against these maniacs that play during the day - then never picked up anything big enough to hold against the incessant re-raises that come during these daytime games. I must've ended up leaving with $18.40 on the table, because I have $556.13 now.

I'd really like to learn how to handle this unbridaled maniacal aggression without getting pissed if I can't pick up a hand. I think the best way to handle it is to tighten up pre-flop, let that person steal and steal - play hands in position and let them hang themselves, and if i have a big one out of position to reraise reraise reraise. I might start a post on P5's and try to see what kind of response I can get to dealing with the situation with an AK - AJ or A10 out of position with a maniac that's willing to gamble. If I do - I'll add the link here.
